Highschool of the Dead – 12 (end) – Series Review
So, when does the second season of Highschool of the Dead begin? Anybody? I suspected something fishy was going on when Takashi and group were told to get their butts moving and find their parents at the 15 minute mark. I thought “Hey now … this is the last episode and the entire mansion is getting swarmed … you don’t have the time to go searching for your parents”. The ending couldn’t have made it more obvious a second season is necessary, but even if the anime gods do not come through, I thoroughly enjoyed the show’s fun and frantic run.
Highschool of the Dead – 11
Banning Shido from the Takagi residence wasn’t something I had expected, but nonetheless a good alternative to having Rei blow his face off with that rifle, though I would have preferred that conclusion. I guess the bits of Shido humanizing helped me understand where his character was coming from, and so I can’t make ill wishes to someone with a crappy childhood growing up the way he is. With that, good-bye Mr. Shido and your orgy bus of fun, best wishes to you out there in that zombie infested hell.
Highschool of the Dead – 10
Taking a step back from the usual zombie slaying and boob groping, the gang has to decide whether to leave the safety of the new larger group or quickly separate before the adults take all their resources. Knowing they probably want to continue to find the whereabouts of their loved ones, disbanding and doing it fast makes more sense at the moment though placing themselves in danger once again. Good thing someone happened to fix their Humvee so they can make their speedy get-away.
Highschool of the Dead – 09
Separated from the rest of the group, Takashi and Saeko must fend for themselves through the night until they can make their way toward safe refuge at Takagi’s mansion.
Thus far Saeko has played a somewhat stereotypical character, though her innocent dialogue at times a strong contrast to the disciplined and matured attitude she predominately presents. Underneath all of it though a dark secret has resurfaced to haunt her again.

I’ll just spare myself and not bother over-analyzing why our fearsome heroes simply did not slip through the wire security fence with its gigantic holes in its mesh pattern. As the zombies are too stupid to bend to slip through themselves, this could have ended the episode in a jiffy. The animators didn’t give much forethought into drawing it I suppose. Maybe it was electrified … just maybe? If it can stop a Humvee, that’s some wicked security fencing they use in Japan and I’ll just assume it’s the most bad-ass and most impregnable security fence in the world … unless you happen to have a ladder.
Highschool of the Dead – 07
Poor Alice, though for the story’s sake we can’t have even more people join the group, especially some old guy! We have to keep the show young looking and fanservice ready! This week’s episode features little of plot advancement besides the addition of Alice, but all than makes up for it in action, crazy Kohta sniping, short shorts, and a healthy amount of fanservice.
Highschool of the Dead – 06
Serving as like a lull before the storm episode, the gang takes a well deserved rest to answer the most important of questions … who has the biggest of them all? With no time to hit the beach, what a better way to relax and squeeze in the obligatory fanservice episode than having a hot, steamy and curvy bath scene.
Highschool of the Dead – 05
If Kohta happened not to miss Shido on purpose with his nail gun, this episode would have been even better.
Good to see the gang reunited. I don’t think I could have withstood another episode with them on the bus with Shido again, with his crazily annoying speeches that have managed to hypnotize and infatuate the other students. In that regard, I’m happy Kohta, Takagi, Saeko, and Shizuka all had the common sense to split ways with this freak as soon as they did.

Rei establishes herself as the calmer and more collected of the two, displaying cool headedness despite the zombie doomsday scenario unfolding around them. That and she’s still able to crack a smile here and there. She’s the complete opposite of Takashi who seems to be in pessimistic mode and is overly flimsy in the decision-making process. Good thing he mans up and gets things done when the circumstances call for it.
Highschool of the Dead – 03
Odd we haven’t seen any other students roaming about in the school, but here they are, and as quickly as they make their appearance, a good portion manage to get themselves killed stupidly shortly afterward. No comment on the girl who suicides herself in the name of love. Cheesy stuff. The escape bus can only fit so many people, why not kill them off now than having them argue who gets to go on I suppose.
