Hunter X Hunter – Episode 31

Hunter X Hunter - Episode 31 - Killua and GonWait minute this episode of Hunter X Hunter actually has new material, uh-oh looks like I have to pay attention for once instead of going through the motions every week. I hope this is the start of a trend of seeing manga material never covered in the 1999 run. This Kastro versus Hisoka fight was nothing but a quick blurb in the original and since I do like me some Hisoka action I was more than happy to watch for once.

Hunter X Hunter – Episode 30

Hunter X Hunter - Episode 30 - GonSweet my favorite character finally showed up again. It’s just a matter of time until the big story arc starts rolling. Oh there was a fight too and I actually enjoyed it, what a rarity. Gon’s eagerness to test his new abilities land him in some deep trouble, with his arm taking a hurting for his excitement to jump into battle without much Nen training. Defense or offense, can’t do both? Not a chance.

Hunter X Hunter – Episode 29

Hunter X Hunter - Episode 29 - GonA mundane Hunter X Hunter episode, this is the burden I have to endure to get to the good stuff. It doesn’t help looking back that most of the training and thought process done here really doesn’t apply to future fights. Well at least all the having to get passed crippling auras doesn’t play a role anymore. Bleach liked to play with that concept a lot with whoever had the more overpowering spiritual reiatsu.

Hunter X Hunter – Episode 28

Hunter X Hunter - Zushi and GonCome on guys, Zushi isn’t your punching bag, let the kid win once in a while okay? Looks like the real training session will begin next week as Wing apparently has a soft spot for saving kids walking toward their certain death. So far, things have played out roughly the same as the original ’99 Hunter X Hunter, and nothing really has kept my interest at the moment except for the really short moments of real fighting. That and pure nostalgia alone. Thank goodness the show is finally done with the Gon push and Killua karate chop. I couldn’t have imagined they could make ranking up levels so boring this time around.

Hunter X Hunter – Episode 27

Hunter X Hunter - 27 - ZushiThis episode of Hunter X Hunter needed more “OSU!” spamming. Well things pick up again as our reunited heroes head off to Heaven’s Arena to beat up on some punks and collect some coin along the way. Killua’s match versus Zushi was the most important as it was the first time the show hints at the underlying Nen system governing all the “powers” some characters have been able to pull off without much explanation. Back in the original I thought Hunter X Hunter was relatively grounded and realistic when it came to its fighting, especially the earlier matches, but that thinking is soon thrown out the window. Hunter X Hunter 1999 was pretty bad or I was relatively stupid back then in understanding the system, so here’s hoping this run does a better job of dumbing it down.

Hunter X Hunter – 26

Hunter X Hunter - 26Well we saw this coming as this week’s Hunter X Hunter is sadly a full-blown recap episode, and there is relatively no new material to speak of. You can enjoy the 20 minutes you just saved by watching the plethora of new anime premiers for the spring season instead. Zetman was pretty good assuming you haven’t read the manga, Fate/Zero 2 is back and kicking, Sankarea is mildly entertaining because I am still blown away by the cat ears on a dude hair style, and Accel World wasn’t so bad either. Well that’s pretty much what I’ve seen so far, with plenty more on the waiting list. Oh well at least I don’t have to write much for this entry as spelling and grammar checks take a lot of time you know.

Hunter X Hunter – 25

Hunter X Hunter - 25Thank goodness we are finally done! With Gon and Killua the best of buddies again Hunter X Hunter can finally pick up on in the story department as this mini-arc ends. While the conclusion to Gotoh’s game was nice with Gon correctly picking the dude behind him as holding the coin, it wasn’t so memorable when you’ve seen it before. To know this game was the peak of this entire arc made these episodes a chore to watch through.

Hunter X Hunter – 24

Hunter X Hunter - 24I mandate Chibi-Killua be the standard in which Killua should be drawn from now on. That is one cute assassin. Anyway, Hunter X Hunter takes some liberty to add good original content for once to expand a bit on the story, as more Canary face smashing is always a good thing. Seeing her use the shadow step with the after images was a nice touch. Now only if Killua’s overprotective mother didn’t get in the way of Killua and Canary’s budding friendship and we could have had a sweet assassin duo.

Hunter X Hunter – 23

Hunter X Hunter - 23 - GonThis week’s Hunter X Hunter spends a bit too much time on filler training than on expanding on Gon getting the snot smacked out of him. It was definitely a missed opportunity to get some emotional reaction out of the viewer by drawing out Gon and Canary/Kanaria’s (whatever her name is) confrontation. More shots of that rod to Gon’s face would get anyone mad.

Hunter X Hunter – 22

Hunter X Hunter - 22 - GonCheck out the muscles on that old dude. Sweet Jesus he is ripped! This week’s episode of Hunter X Hunter starts off the rescue mission to meet Killua and knock some sense into him. I think I’m more surprised the show spent so much time getting through this gate than anything. It’s not that important and to spend an entire episode covering a single boring chapter is quite odd.
