Hunter X Hunter – 25

Hunter X Hunter - 25Thank goodness we are finally done! With Gon and Killua the best of buddies again Hunter X Hunter can finally pick up on in the story department as this mini-arc ends. While the conclusion to Gotoh’s game was nice with Gon correctly picking the dude behind him as holding the coin, it wasn’t so memorable when you’ve seen it before. To know this game was the peak of this entire arc made these episodes a chore to watch through.

Another – Series Review

Another - AnimeAnother steadily develops an intriguing hook and runs with it to the show’s satisfying conclusion. Caught in the middle of it are Kouichi and Mei, two students who are quickly shunned by the rest of their peers as the mystery of their Class 3 slowly unravel. The two play well-off against each other’s contrasting personalities and luckily Mei didn’t turn out as mute as I had thought her to be. She slowly becomes my favorite character of the show. Another does a good job of allowing plenty of time for character development between Mei and Kouichi, and with its efforts in character building, Another is just as good when it comes to unfolding its story.

New Prince of Tennis – 13 (end)

New Prince of Tennis - 13 - EchizenTo my surprise New Prince of Tennis ends its first season with a strong finish. The matches shown here were not in the manga, or at least I don’t think they were, so this was all new material to me. The episode handled Echizen’s and the rest of the Black Jersey players return well. Sure the episode may have taken it a bit overboard with the crazy number of matches in a single episode, but it’s nothing to complain about when it’s the last episode of the season. It’s only too bad the Court 2 players did not put up a good fight as the one-sidedness of matches make me question how all the Court 2 players were better than the previous Court 3.

Guilty Crown – Review

Posted on Mar 27, 2012 in Anime, Anime Reviews, Guilty Crown | 0 comments

Guilty Crown“It looks pretty,” would be my one line review of Guilty Crown. With the last episode done and long forgotten, Guilty Crown struggled to deliver neither a strong cast nor a compelling story to pull it altogether. Lead to mediocrity by one of the most useless, annoying, and spineless characters in recent memory, Guilty Crown could not find its way assuming it had somewhere significant to go in the first place. The girls are pretty though, it’s what kept me watching for sure. Oh Ayase, you will get your day soon enough!

Hunter X Hunter – 24

Hunter X Hunter - 24I mandate Chibi-Killua be the standard in which Killua should be drawn from now on. That is one cute assassin. Anyway, Hunter X Hunter takes some liberty to add good original content for once to expand a bit on the story, as more Canary face smashing is always a good thing. Seeing her use the shadow step with the after images was a nice touch. Now only if Killua’s overprotective mother didn’t get in the way of Killua and Canary’s budding friendship and we could have had a sweet assassin duo.

New Prince of Tennis – 12

New Prince of Tennis - 12 - IrieIrie you’re such a trickster to the end. However, I don’t care anymore because with the return of our favorite losers, it’s time to focus on Echizen and crew. Forget all these pampered players I want to see what our nature loving group has to show after all their obscure training. Who am I kidding New Prince of Tennis is finishing its first season next week and with no time to do anything!

Hunter X Hunter – 23

Hunter X Hunter - 23 - GonThis week’s Hunter X Hunter spends a bit too much time on filler training than on expanding on Gon getting the snot smacked out of him. It was definitely a missed opportunity to get some emotional reaction out of the viewer by drawing out Gon and Canary/Kanaria’s (whatever her name is) confrontation. More shots of that rod to Gon’s face would get anyone mad.

New Prince of Tennis – 11

New Prince of Tennis - 11 - AtobeNew Prince of Tennis finally stops wasting time and for once delivers good on a tennis match. It’s ironic because they went too fast. I could have sworn they could have taken two episodes to finish this match. Oh well you can’t win them all. Before that though, poor Fuji, did not even stand a chance against Tezuka. Cannot blame him that instant win aura is really obnoxious. With that Tezuka heads off to become a pro in Germany, which in turns allows the other captains a shot at the spotlight for once.

Hunter X Hunter – 22

Hunter X Hunter - 22 - GonCheck out the muscles on that old dude. Sweet Jesus he is ripped! This week’s episode of Hunter X Hunter starts off the rescue mission to meet Killua and knock some sense into him. I think I’m more surprised the show spent so much time getting through this gate than anything. It’s not that important and to spend an entire episode covering a single boring chapter is quite odd.

New Prince of Tennis – 10

New Prince of Tennis - 10 - YamatoNew Prince of Tennis finally stops wasting time and gets to the good stuff, this week’s match featuring Tezuka versus former Seigaku captain Yamato. However, let’s forget all that for a moment as I have been reading the manga up to this episode and I think I’m going insane by the direction of this show. I’ll just have you know the first two matches this episode casually skips over without a care in the world actually would have taken an episode and a half to animate; there was a lot of match time from the manga the producer just decided to skip. So apparently wasting five or so episodes in the forest training was worth the sacrifice of not animating these matches. What a disappointment.
