Highschool of the Dead – 01
While watching Japanese high-schoolers eaten alive in great detail isn’t the most appealing thing in the world, I’m going to settle for Highschool of the Dead being the most promising of the new shows this season.
The show with the most gore, violence, and plump fan-service during the most inappropriate moments is pretty good. What makes it interesting is that it mirrors a traditional Japanese gore movie pretty well actually. Let’s not forget, it’s a freaking zombie anime done right, at least so far.
The characters, well at least what’s left of them are pretty ordinary really. There is nothing special about them though I’m looking forward to the sword-master-chick making her appearance soon. Hell, she’ll probably keep the entire cast alive since the three two main characters left are probably going to die if left alone to fend for themselves. Luckily the episode gives obvious hints as to whom the first group is going to look like.
The art is fantastic to the point I squirm a bit inside when I see death animations as zombies go for that killing bite, preceded by a river of blood spewing every which way. The reverse is also true as bats and whatever hard object smash through the skulls of these zombies. All in all, so far so good, looking forward to the next episode.
