Freezing – Volumes 9, 10, and 11 – Manga Review
Coming off with a distaste of the Freezing manga, volume 9 gets things rolling in the right direction. With the Nova as unpredictable as they are and ever-growing in strength, the current supply of Pandora is deemed too low. It’s decided that the top Pandora from each region are to come together in Alaska to take part in the E-Pandora project. The goal of Evolution Pandora is to produce artificial compatibility with Stigmata. Right now only girls born with an affinity are able to use the Stigmata, if successful the E-Pandora project would be able to mass produce Pandora using regular soldiers.
Freezing – Volumes 7 – 8 – Manga Review
I enjoyed the Freezing anime, fanservice and all. A guilty pleasure of mine, Freezing had no redeeming qualities by most people’s standards, but I was definitely a sucker for the finicky Satellizer and Kazuya pairing. The manga has progressed far from the end of the anime so I decided to check it out and continue where things left off. That would be volume 7 by the way if you’re coming in from the end of the anime. Ah, yeah, what a disappointment. I’m sure I enjoyed nothing of this arc besides the fact it ended. Disgusting is the best I could describe it.
Shingeki no Kyojin – Volume 7 – Manga Review
Oh my, what a mess. The entire expedition has ended in failure, with absolutely nothing of gain achieved by the Scouting Legion besides the fact everyone underestimated the real intelligence of these titans. However, the many ways the female titan managed to save herself was bordering on “this is a bit too convenient” syndrome, but it was still an exciting and horrific read, despite the misfortune that has fallen on the Scouting Legion.
Otoyomegatari – Volume 2 – Manga Review
The second volume of Otoyomegatari fares better, though not by much. I know I’m not its target audience, but I really didn’t want to stop reading the manga only into its first volume with such a disappointed impression, so I gave it another chance just to make sure. And what do you know, A Bride’s Story is actually interesting when it’s not solely centered on Karluk and Amira’s relationship, of which I still have mixed feelings about.
Otoyomegatari – Volume 1 – Manga Review
Well let’s get this out-of-the-way, Otoyomegatari’s art is beautiful. The amount of detail oozing out from clothing, woodcarving, scenery, etc. is astonishing. The art is truly something all readers can appreciate. Now, as eye-catching as the manga is, I’m really disappointed the story just didn’t hold my interest on the same level. It was like reading through a manga version of a National Geographic article.
Shingeki no Kyojin – Volumes 4 – 6 – Manga Review
Now this is more like it. With Eren feeling guilty about using his powers due to the requests of his new scouting legion buddies, the action has returned to the traditional approach of raw human gutsiness versus titans. Yes, I’m not a fan of the titan versus titan nonsense that has gone on recently. I prefer anything than Eren blindly berserking his way to victory. Raw human strategy against such monstrous odds is much more entertaining than what would be two dumb animals having at it if Eren decided to transform again.
Shingeki no Kyojin – Volumes 1 – 3 – Review
Devouring humans for pleasure, the human populace in a last-ditch effort fortified its remaining population in a large city surrounded by enormous walls to keep the giants out. Successful in their endeavor, humankind has enjoyed 100 years of peace. Shingeki no Kyojin’s story revolves around Eren, his adopted sister Mikasa, and their childhood friend Armin. One day, the three and the rest of the city witness the unbelievable happen. A Titan, a giant of unimaginable scale taller than the mighty walls the humans had built 100 years ago has appeared. Humanity’s worst fear has become reality as their wall of peace could no longer hold back the giants.
Hoozuki no Shima – Manga Review
Kokoro and younger sister Yume are now attending Hohzuki Academy, a school on a remote island. Populated by only four teachers and a couple of students, Kokoro and Yume begin to meld with the other children and start to enjoy their new life at the school. Soon enough though, the image of the pristine island starts to become tainted as the children start to uncover the school’s dark secrets and witness questionable events that lead them all to believe their lives are in danger.
Code Breaker – Volume 2 – Manga Review
Sakura is dragging my enjoyment of Code Breaker down the drain. She is a kill joy, her role as the moral compass of the manga is so rudimentary and superficial at the moment. I really can’t take the plot seriously when we got a killer followed around by a stupid school girl who does nothing but spout killing is wrong in everyone’s ears. I don’t think I can keep going if all I’m going to see is Sakura butt in and attempt to save Ogami’s targets because she wants to save his purity or something. Are you kidding me that’s stupid.
Code Breaker – Volume 1 – Manga Review
Code Breaker is a manga about Sakurakouji Sakura catching new transfer student Ogami Rei setting a group of gangsters on fire with a blue flame. Their paths’ intertwine and Sakura has the awesome responsibility of solving the mystery of how and why Rei is doing what he’s doing. Eventually the two’s sense of justice collide with Sakura having to deal with Rei’s quick-to-kill attitude.
