Ookami-san – 03
For precisely 20 minutes I thought to myself, “This show sucks, why am I watching this garbage?” Precisely after 20 minutes I thought, “This is ending well.” The episode manages to miraculously pull out a cute and meaningful closing.
For what seemed to be forever, I had to endure the two conceited Otohime and Usami compete against one another in the name of love, beauty and back-stabbing.
Sure Otohime has a higher moral standing per se due to her chubby past haunting her, but mostly comes out as pathetic and annoying as Usami who has remained a stuck-up loli for her entire life thus far. Oddly enough, Urashima, who comes off as some sort of womanizer at first and probably will remain as such, emerges as a pretty good dude who saw meaningful qualities in Otohime’s fatter and younger self. Yeah, who would have thought huh?
I have no idea if this show is trying to be funny or not since obviously I was disgusted by watching 20 minutes of it. The episode did however manage to generate two smirks from me. One was a smirk of disgust when I had been successfully trolled into falling for the trap that was the cross-dressing President. The second instance was when Ryouko came out fully clothed in her normal attire during the swimsuit portion of the beauty contest.
As for the ending, I did enjoy the little cute take away on how Otohime’s popularity was destroyed into shambles in order for her to realize what was most important to her, that the only acceptance and praise she truly needed was from the one she loved than that of complete strangers. Cute and corny, but it shows the series has the potential if it took itself a bit more seriously.
