Hunter X Hunter – 05
Now this, this I like. Barring all those silly creatures in the early half of the episode as an excuse to cut a good chunk of the participants from the Hunter Exam, the Hisoka standoff was the highlight of this episode.
This is the Hisoka I know. The cool, collected and lustful Hisoka remains intact from his transition from the original Hunter X Hunter. The tension this guy creates every time he’s on scene is still present even though I have a good recollection of what’s going to happen anyway. Even so, I’m always rooting for Gon’s gung-ho attempts at fighting him regardless of his chances.

Tonpa is still as annoying as I had remembered him. Sporting that smug-ass smirk, ugly nose, and oozing a mischievous demeanor all over him, it’s not reassuring this guy will be sticking around for some time during the Hunter Exam.
Hisoka’s voice actor is nowhere near the original. It seems there was no effort at all in getting someone who could come close to the original. Killua sounds off too but is much more tolerable. Leorio sounds exactly like he does in the original, Kurapika is almost there, and Gon is slightly different but good enough.

To much dismay, the trio is back together again already. I for one wouldn’t have mind another episode of the two battling it out. With Takuto and Sugata taking casual baths together, it’s safe to say everything is now fine and dandy, as if the incident never occurred. Takuto’s victory eased the tension between the two and helped Sugata calm down knowing that Takuto is more than capable of protecting Wako when the need arises.

Takuto and Sugata’s fight just helped to emphasize that there’s still a huge amount of back-story to cover. Both can’t trust each other because the two are putting up a front, Sugata really the more surprising of the two. Behind that disciplined and well-mannered exterior, he has something deeper going on as evident in the episode, of what only time will tell. Takuto even with good intentions is still a mysterious character himself. So before they can begin to fight besides each other, both have to start revealing some of their past.
Star Driver – 07
This week’s battle didn’t fair too well as much as I had hoped it would, Sugata’s safety taking precedence over any flashy moves on Takuto’s part. A quick draw of his sword not the most exciting of finishers, but I’ll take what I can get I suppose. Such a shame too as I was really enjoying the fight before they decided to end it quickly.
