Hunter X Hunter – 17
Toning it down from the absolute rush that was the previous episode, things settle as the reunited team sans Killua searches off to get Leorio’s target Ponzu before time ends. Killua is just too cool for school and gets his plate easily compared to the others. The whole switch-a-roo bit involving the name plates was hilarious. Star Driver – 06
With finally some interesting character background, Sugata is at last a part of the show as he felt like a secondary character thus far. You always knew there was something special about him, and it was just a matter of time before his big reveal. As shocking as it was to find out Sugata actually has the strongest Cybody to rule them all, the news isn’t so menacing when he gets screwed into a coma the moment he tries to use it.
Star Driver – 05
Where were all the hot school nurses when I was in school? Not even remotely close to denting Takuto’s Tauburn, the Glittering Crux gives it another go by toying with Takuto using sexual appeal. Unfortunately for them, Takuto doesn’t have an ounce of perversion within his skinny frame, so they need to have a better plan ready for the next episode.
Star Driver – 04
I thought of Inception while watching this, anyone else? A nice change of tactics by the Glittering Star, as their brute force track record against pretty boy Takuto is nothing to brag about. The purpose of the illusion to get Takuto and Wako all lovey-dovey together in Zero Time where no one would interfere, as desired of the enemy pilot so she could have pretty boy Sugata all to herself.
Star Driver – 03
Star Driver is starting to lose its “what the hell is going on” charm as things begin to make a bit more sense and as the show settles into a monster of the week episode format. I did enjoy that cute yellow fox pet scurrying around the boat, so it’s all okay.
The past three episodes have followed the pattern of … normal but awkward school life takes place in the beginning, the fetish council of doom convenes to babble about nothing during the middle, and the last segment has the ever so entertaining fight of the week of which our hero dominates with very little effort. By the looks of the fourth episode preview, the show may deviate from the norm a bit, though more than likely will stay with its Sailormoon / Utena roots and episodic format.

This episode’s fight was as enjoyable as last week, though the flamboyance and glamour of it all has definitely worn off. While I wouldn’t mind monster of the week episodes, I would prefer fewer battles in exchange for meaningful ones instead. Though considering the number of squads and who knows how many members within each one, that may just be an improbable request. I also hope Takuto’s new attack won’t make a regular appearance as I prefer more of a flashier and visceral mêlée oriented battle to that of projectiles and colorful love beams thrown around at leisure.
