Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 – 08

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - 08Yuuki suddenly collapses and is sent off to the hospital. I almost fell for the killing off Yuuki nightmare stunt they were trying to pull off, but I figured as much Mirai already had a million other nightmares before it, so this one has to be fake too. I think I’m ready to move to Mari’s storyline now. I believe these kids have experienced pretty much everything they could outside of the writers killing them off, which I seriously doubt would ever happen. Both have undergone some major hardships and have matured (especially Mirai) in such a short period. It’s only been what, a couple of days since the first earthquake hit Tokyo and Mirai has transitioned from one of the most unlikable characters to a half decent girl! Yeah half decent, that’s all I got for her.

Really though, this is the same emo girl from the first episode who is now able to give Mari some sincere positive words of encouragement in regard to her daughter Hina. She’s improved so much in 8 episodes.

The look of the episode drastically improved at the end with all the surrounding greenery. It looked really good.

As we come to the end, this is a 12 episode series right? Right? I pretty much expect the following:

1. Mirai and Yuuki safely reunite with their parents. They have a stronger bond as a family and do more stuff together, like go to robot conventions and look at bridges? Not too far-fetched, that’s what Yuuki would wish for anyway.

Or … Mirai and Yuuki’s parents are dead.

2. Mari meets up with her daughter and her mother who have been fine all along.

3. Mechanized emergency robots to be produced in real life since the airing of Tokyo Magnitude. Not far-fetched at all, it’s the hidden goal of the show I tell you.

Rating: 3.5/5

  1. Have you ever considered that Yuuki is actually dead but Mirai refuses to believe it. There were a lot of hints in this episode that suggested it, but I hope I’m wrong.

-Mari seems to ignore Yuuki’s existence (she didn’t call him or talk to him)
-Mari is looking at Mirai with a strange painful expression
-Mari said something like “about Yuuki….” before getting cut off by Mirai
-Mirai is carrying Yuuki’s bag (but this can be explained by the fact that his body is currently very week)
-Are the two “dreams” really dreams?

    • If you begin from the moment she wakes up, you can argue that Yuuki is dead.

Hell you can even point out there was only one other sleeping bag that was empty unless you figure Yuuki and Mari sleep in the same sleeping bag? kinky

Every scene she is alone with Yuuki you can just argue it’s all in her head.

When Mari is included, she does indeed function without much regard to Yuuki’s existence/health (though she might just think he’s perfectly fine ATM).

I can’t really point to any definite time in which I could definitely say he’s still alive, as in if he was actually talked to besides Mirai … if Mari had said a single word to him then we wouldn’t be holding this speculation talk.

All in all, a mind fuck wouldn’t be so bad for the show.

  2. another thing that makes it seem more true. Just as Mari seems to ignore Yuuki, Yuuki also doesn’t say anything to her and doesn’t seem to care about her existence.

  3. I think that too, I hope thats not true though.
There are two lines Mari said to Mirai, which I think prefer to Yuuki’s death:

    “Mirai-chan I left a message for your parents[...]And for Yuuki,I’ll..”
(maybe she wanted to say here that she will take care of him or rather his body)

After Mirai tries to cheer up Mari, she begins to cry and apologises..
    “I’m sorry..I’m really sorry.”
I think that she apologises for Yuukis death, but those are just assumptions..we will know more in the next ep..

  4. Yes, again gathering more hints from other blogs and myanimelist, you have the following additional clues:

-What was the documentation that Mari was called for? Is that the death certificate?

And then the convincing blow for the viewers:
-In the very last scene before the ED, with Mirai talking about Yuuki and goes off, then Mari had a sad look on her face. Then, the camera pans out across the bridge…and we don’t see Yuuki beside Mirai. Instead, he is nowhere to be seen….
